Managing Holding Patterns

You can use the Holding Patterns window to manage how the holding patterns appear on the map. Holding Patterns are specified airspace for use by in-flight aircraft experiencing an airborne delay known as holding. These patterns are typically a racetrack based on a holding fix. This information is updated and provided to Flight Explorer by the FAA and DAFIF.

To Activate Holding Patterns View:

The overlay must be enabled first by clicking the Show Holding Pattern Overlay check box in User Defined View Settings -> Holding Patterns or by clicking the down arrow on the Holding Pattern Overlay icon on the Overlay Toolbar, then selecting Holding Pattern Settings.

To turn on the Holding Patterns overlay, click the Holding Pattern Overlay icon on the Overlay toolbar, or select Holding Patterns on the Overlays menu.

ClosedAdd a Holding Pattern

  1. Type the ID in the Holding ID field (i.e. “ABCDE”).
  2. Click Add to list. Add as many id's as needed.
  3. Click Apply, and then click Ok to save. Click Cancel to close the window.

ClosedRemove a Holding Pattern

  1. Click the Holding ID
  2. Click Remove from list.
  3. Click Ok to save or Cancel to close the window without saving changes.

ClosedAdd a Filter Group

  1. Click on an item (default is "None") in the Filter Group column
  2. Select the Filter Group name from the popup list by clicking on it. You will see a check appear in the check box in the first column.
  3. Select a custom color for this group by clicking on the corresponding rectangle in the Color column (optional)
  4. Click Apply and continue editing overlay settings or click Ok to save and close the window.

Click the check box in the first column corresponding to that Filter Group or click the FIlter Group name in the Overlay Dropdown menu

ClosedRemoving a Filter Group

  1. Click on the Filter Group name in the Filter Group column
  2. Select the first item in the popup list ("None") by clicking on it.
  3. Click Apply and continue editing overlay settings or click Ok to save and close the window.
