Description

Phrase Format (for aircraft events)

The spoken phrase for aircraft events takes the form:

[Airline name] Flight ABC 1234 [Event]

When an airline is encountered that is unknown or not in the database, the airline ID initials are spoken.

Each of these four sections can be enabled or disabled to build a custom phrase.

Airline Name

Flight Explorer finds the airline name corresponding to the 3-letter airline ID and verbalizes. When the default airline name that Flight Explorer speaks is not what is expected, override up to 6 airline ID's with custom text (see Airline ID Voice Overrides below).

Flight

The literal word "flight".

ABC

The three letter airline ID spoken as individual letters.

1234

The numeric portion of the aircraft ID.

Speak Object Name for Drawing Object Alerts

This option makes it possible to hear the name of the drawing object in the spoken phrase (object NAME, not object LABEL).

Speak Airport ID for Events Related to an Airport

This option includes the Airport ID in the spoken phrase and only applies to the following events:

  • Departed
  • Arrived
  • Destination changed
  • ETA changed
  • Flight plan changed
  • Near destination

Speech Rate

Move this slider left or right to customize the speed at which the audio alert is spoken. Anywhere from Slow to Normal to Fast.

Speech Prefix and Suffix

To further customize the audible alert, add text that will be spoken at the beginning and/or end of the voice alert. Either plain text or SAPI 5.1 XML commands can be used in these fields.

Some commonly used XML voice commands are:

  • Emphasis: <emph>Text</emph>
  • Pause: <silence msec="500"/>
  • Volume: <volume level="50">Text</volume>

Note  See the Microsoft Speech SDK 5.1 documentation for a complete set of XML tags available.

Airline ID Voice Overrides

This section can be used to override an airline ID with a customized voice message. Up to 6 individual airlines can be changed.

Generate a Voice Test Event

This button is used to test new voice overrides (see above). An audible test will sound using the selected options.

Remove Pending Voice Events from Queue

This option immediately stops any voice event being spoken, and clears any pending events from the queue.
