Description |
---|---|
To Address |
Address where the e-mail alert is to be sent. This can be a desktop e-mail address or an e-mail address from a cellular provider for messaging. (Please contact your wireless provider for information on how to send text messages to your wireless device via e-mail.) |
Mail Server |
DNS name or IP address of the SMTP mail server (i.e. mail.yourdomain.com), or the destination mail server on which the TO address (see above) resides. |
Port |
SMTP port number where the email is sent. |
Subject Line |
Text that appears on the subject line of the e-mail alert. You can also choose to have the event details appear in the subject line of the email, select the box to the right, Append Event Information. |
Append Event Information |
Indicates whether you want the details of the event added to the subject line of the email. With this box checked, the event details appear in the subject line. With this box clear, FE Alert (or anything else you choose) is the only text that appears in the subject line. |
From Address |
Enter the e-mail address of the mail server (see above) where the message is coming from. Many mail servers will not accept an e-mail message unless it has a FROM address of a valid account on the mail server. (i.e. johnsmith@yourdomain.com). |
User ID |
This is the User ID associated with an e-mail account that is authorized to send e-mail. |
Password |
The password associated with the User ID specified above. |
Connection Encryption |
|
Generate an E-mail Test Event |
To test e-mail settings, click to generate a test e-mail using the above settings. E-mail alerts have a safety limit of no more than 10 in a 60 second period. This is to ensure that the e-mail server (and Inbox) do not get flooded with e-mail if too many events are selected for e-mail alerting. When alerts are discarded because of this limit, an error event is displayed on the Event List. |
Advanced e-mail settings |
Opens the Advanced E-mail settings window where you can add emails to receive alerts. |
Note Most all messaging services and cell phones allow you to send a text message by sending an e-mail to a special e-mail address, such as: 5555555555@yourwirelessprovider.com. Please contact your service provider for details on how you can send a message to your wireless device in this manner.
