Description

Enable weather alerts

Indicates whether you would like to enable the weather alerts.

Alert Area Display

The user can select whether to display the alert area when active and/or non-active, and choose a color for each.

  • Active – when the alert area has weather in it which is at or above the threshold.
  • Non-Active – when the alert area does NOT have weather at or above the threshold.

Alert Method

Click the Generate Alert Once check box to only be alerted one time of an event. When not selected alerts will be repeated every time there is a change at or above the set weather threshold. A built in alert safety limit has been set to not exceed 10 times within 60 seconds to avoid message overload. Alert methods are determined in the Event Manager.

Alert Area

Define the alert area by setting the center point latitude and longitude, which can be entered in any of the supported formats and the deviation, which is in positive decimal degrees to 4 decimal places.

For example, the area around DFW airport might be defined as follows:

Lat/Lon of DFW (found in the look-up table): 32.896 North latitude, 97.041 West longitude. Therefore, center point latitude = 32.896 and center point longitude = -97.041 or enter the coordinates in any other of the formats supported by Flight Explorer. To extend the alert area 3 degrees north and south and 2 degrees east and west, the deviation latitude would be 3.0000 and the deviation longitude would be 2.0000.

  • Center Point – the center position of the alert area rectangle
  • Deviation – the distance the alert area extends from the center point

Alert Criteria

The NEXRAD threshold alert area is specified in the Any NEXRAD level in area is at or greater than section. There are 15 NEXRAD levels (5 to 75 dBZ) and an Ignore setting for which weather is displayed.
