Standard Selection and Zoom Cursor

Click, hold, and drag to form a rectangle on the map. When released Flight Explorer zooms in to the area represented in the rectangle. The space bar toggles between the Standard, Panning, and Multiple cursors.

Panning Cursor

Click, hold (indicated by the hand-closed), drag to pan and redraw at the new position. The space bar toggles between the Standard, Panning, and Multiple cursors.

Multiple Selection Cursor

Multiple aircraft can be selected in a single map or multiple maps. There are two ways to select multiple aircraft:

Click individual aircraft to highlight. Right-click one of the aircraft in the group to open the Plane Context Menu. The Plane Context Menu shows the common attributes to all selected aircraft. Choose from Show Tag, Show History, Show Vector, Show Range Ring, and Show Flight Plan.

Click and hold the mouse to drag a rectangle around the aircraft of interest. Aircraft are then highlighted. Right-click one of the aircraft in the group to open the Plane Context Menu. The Plane Context Menu shows the common attributes to all selected aircraft. Choose from Show Tag, Show History, Show Vector, Show Range Ring, and Show Flight Plan.

The space bar toggles between the Standard, Panning, and Multiple cursors.

Clearing Multiple Selection:

Manually:

  1. To turn off all individual tags, history or vectors, use Plane Overlay on the Main toolbar, click the down arrow and select Clear All Individual.

Automatically:

  • Multiple Selection is cleared automatically when any of these conditions are met:
    • When the User Defined View is changed.

When any plane filter is added, edited or deleted from the current view.

Note  The selections will NOT be cleared when all filters are deleted via the Eraser toolbar button or Clear All on the Quick Filter dialog, since the selected planes are guaranteed to remain on-screen.

When a new map window is selected in multi map mode.

Route Edit Cursor

Used to alter an existing route or create a new route.

Distance / Bearing - Switches the mouse cursor to distance bearing mode. After pressing this button, click anywhere on the map to anchor the D/B tool. Move the cursor around to see the great circle distance and true north bearing from the anchor point to the current cursor position. Seem D/B Button for more informaiton.

Latitude / Longitude - Switches the mouse cursor to latitude / longitude mode. After pressing this button, move the cursor around the map to see the latitude and longitude at the cursor position. See L/L Button for more information.

Ellipse (Circle) Drawing Button - Places the cursor into Drawing object mode to create an ellipse.

Square Drawing Button - Places the cursor into Drawing object mode to create a rectangle.

Polygon Drawing Button - Places the cursor into Drawing object mode to create a polygon.

Drawing Object Motion Button

Set the motion direction and speed when creating drawing objects with the drawing buttons.

Screen Projection

Switches modes between a flat world view and a three-dimensional world view. See more information about Screen Projection below.

Standard Projection - Changes the screen to a flat world appearance.

Spherical Projection - Changes the screen to a 3D world appearance.

Background Brightness Control - Toggles the Background Brightness Control which acts to dim the background to create higher visibility of the aircraft overlay

Toggles the Diversion Status Icons which depict airport capacity and demand with respect to diversion and closures. This feature is only available to users authorized for the Diversion Manager module

Switches between multi-map modes as represented by the icon.

Ellipses and Rectangles

  1. Click a drawing button (pencil with circle, square, or polygon).
  2. Click and hold anywhere on the map. Drag and release to select the offset. (Hold the Shift key while dragging to keep a constant mileage, or the Control key for constant shape).
  3. Click the motion button to select direction and speed.
  4. Select the label, coordinates, line settings, fill settings, center and vertex points, etc.
  5. Make any additional changes in Create Drawing Objects, then press OK to save the new drawing object.

Polygons

  1. Click the Polygon button.
  2. Click and release, anywhere on the map to begin the shape.
  3. Move the cursor to the next point of the polygon and click once.
  4. Move the cursor to the next point of the polygon and click again.
  5. Repeat step 3 until you are satisfied with the shape.
  6. Click Space Bar to finish creating the shape or Esc to cancel. The Create Drawing Object window opens.
  7. Change any of the attributes for this polygon.
  8. Click the Generate Alerts option to be notified when an aircraft enters the region of the polygon.
  9. Click Ok to save the new drawing object.

Detached Windows

The Flight Explorer application supports non-modal detached windows that can be moved to multiple monitors and sized as desired. These windows support all of the functionality of a typical multi-map window. You must first click on the map window to make it the active window, as indicated by the status bar. At this point the toolbars on the main window will reflect the settings in the active window and you can perform typical functions including switching between User Defined Views or toggling overlays.

Standard Projection

When a known airway wraps from one side of the screen to the other, it is actually displayed in two segments. The first segment is the actual airway name (i.e. G344) and the second segment is the airway name with a plus sign appended to the end of it (i.e. G344+). In order to display both segments properly, you must add both G344 and the G344+ to the selection list.

Standard Projection supports all functions of the Flight Explorer application. Switch to Standard Projection by clicking the Standard icon on the Cursor toolbar.

Spherical Projection

In the Spherical view there is no need to wrap airways. Spherical Projection Supports all functions of the Flight Explorer application including; Aircraft Tags, Flight Plan, Route Flown, and Plane Context Menu.

Switch to Spherical Projection by clicking the Spherical icon on the Cursor toolbar.

Note  Rotation Error Message may occur. This is due to computers with insufficient power or that lack current resources. The User Defined View being used is too complex and must be simplified by removing characteristics such as terrain, tags, weather, etc.
