General Options is accessed by selecting Options on the Tools menu or Options on the Tools toolbar. Following is a description for each portion of the General Options tab.

Mouse Cursor Auto-Select

Enable or disable the mouse cursor auto-selection circle for planes.

Hot Tip Display

Enable or disable the hot-tip display for planes, airports, etc.

Plane Hot Tip Destination Line

Enable or disable the plane destination line that appears when resting the mouse over a plane.

Enable Drawing Object Hints

Enable or disable the Drawing Objects hints that are displayed when creating a drawing object graphically using the cursor toolbar buttons.

Map Legend

 

Auto-size Legend Box as View Changes

When the map legend is displayed (by clicking Map Legend on the Overlays menu), it automatically adjusts size as the view changes. Used to display as much of the current view information as possible.

Restore Previous Legend State on Startup

The next time Flight Explorer is started the map legend is displayed at the same location when Flight Explorer was turned off.

"Go to" Plane

 

Show Temporary Aircraft Tag

A temporary aircraft tag is displayed for approximately 10 seconds when locating an aircraft, through Go to, Find Plane, etc.

Zoom Level

When not selected, the zoom level is not changed. Use the slider to choose the level that icons and labels are visible on-screen. Click the @ button to select the current zoom level. The corresponding item will be visible from the selected zoom level to the lowest zoom level (city).

Fuel Unit

 

Fuel (Weight)

Select Fuel weight unit. Choices are Pounds or Kilograms.

Fuel (Volume)

Select Fuel Volume unit. Choices are Gallons or Liters.

Time/Date display

 

 

Time Zone

Select time display format. Choices are UTC (Coordinated Universal Time/GMT/Zulu) or local time (as set in the Windows control panel).

Format

Set a 12 hour (am/pm) or 24 hour display. For more information on how to set the PC’s local time under Windows, see the Time/Date applet in the Windows control panel or double click the time display on the Windows task bar.

Date Format

There are different date formats used around the world, Select how the date will appear throughout the application. The delimiters or separator can also be selected.

Left-Click Zoom

 

Enable Left-Click Zoom

Enables the left-click zoom / zoom-out function. A single click zooms in centered around the position of the click, and Shift-click zooms back to the previous viewing area and scale.

Left-Click Zoom Percentage

Sets the size of zoom that takes place for each click, when Left-Click Zoom is enabled.

  • 0 = No zoom, re-center around point of click.
  • 1 – 99 = Amount of zoom (1 = minimum, 99 = maximum)

Confirm Application Exit

When selected, Flight Explorer opens a confirmation box each time there is an attempt to exit Flight Explorer.

Disconnect After...

Set Flight Explorer to automatically disconnect after a specified number of minutes of inactivity (no mouse movement).

Display and Calculate Distance As

Set miles displayed and calculated as Nautical miles (NM), Statute miles (SM), or Kilometers (KM).

Aircraft ID Sort Order

Select how the aircraft ID will be sorted in the My Fleet Status List and Flight List by alphanumeric or airline + flight ID.

Mouse Scroll Wheel

Select how the scroll wheel of the mouse will react (scrolling or zooming). Shift + wheel performs the opposite function when either option is selected. It is recommended to begin in the Zoom mode.
