Create Drawing Objects Window

To open the Create drawing objects window

  1. In the Cursors area in the Home tab, click one of the drawing object tools .

    The cursor changes to cross hairs and a pencil when you move over the map.

  1. Click on the map and draw the object on the map where you want it to go while holding the mouse done.
  2. Release the mouse.

    The Create drawing object window Closedappearsappears.

Note  You can use the Copy points to clipboard to copy the drawing points.

Item

Description

Object Type

Select an Ellipse, Rectangle, or Polygon object type to draw in the specified location on the map.

Object Name

Enter the name of the object.

Label (on-screen)

Area where you can edit the label that appears for the drawing object.

Text

Text that you can have appear on the drawing object.

Alignment

Indicates the alignment of the label and how you want it to appear in relation to the drawing object.

You can select:

  • Left
  • Center
  • Right

Color

Color box where you can select the color of the label.

True Shape and True Distance

With True Shape, the shape is drawn accurately but radial distance may not be constant at certain projections. With True Distance, the radial distance is constant but the shape may not be drawn accurately at certain projections.

Pixel Accurate

Calculates the radius of the circle using the average of the Major and Minor axis of the ellipse. Useful for Drawing Objects and range rings.

Line Settings

Area where you can adjust the look of the line of the drawing object.

Type

Indicates the type of line you would like to choose. You can select from the following types of lines:

Solid

Dashed

Dotted

None

Width

Indicates the width of the line of the drawing object.

  • Default
  • 1 Pixel
  • 2 Pixel
  • 3 Pixel
  • 4 Pixel
  • 5 Pixel

Color

Color box where you can select the color of the line.

Fill settings

Area where you can modify the fill of the drawing object.

Type

Indicates the type of fill you would like for the drawing object.

  • None
  • Solid
  • Vertical hatch
  • Horz hatch
  • Cross hatch
  • Diag hatch left
  • Diag hatch right
  • Diag cross hatch

Color

Color box where you can select the color of the fill.

Alpha

Indicates the brightness of the fill. Move the slider Transp, the fill will not appear. Move the slider to Opaque, the fill appears.

Category

Use this option to determine how Flight Explorer should treat this drawing object. Select from:

  • View Based
  • Alert Based
  • Avoidance - can also be seen in Flight Plan Manager.

If you would like to also see the Avoidance area in Flight Plan Manager, ensure the Synchronize with Flight Plan Manager check box has been selected.

Advanced

Click Advanced > > > to widen the options box. The following items in this table appear after clicking Advanced.

Zoom Levels

Choose the zoom level for the object, label, or point of the drawing object to be visible on-screen. Select the current zoom level by clicking @. The corresponding item is visible from the selected zoom level to the lowest zoom level (city). The default zoom level for an object, point, and label is set to full world so that it can always been seen upon creation, but is still dependent on the zoom level that is set in User Defined View Settings for Drawing Objects.

Altitude Boundaries

Set the altitude boundary for an object. Altitude is entered in hundreds of feet and a blank entry indicates unbounded.

Alerts

Alert 1 -

Choose to generate an alert when an aircraft enters or leaves the area of your Drawing object. Please see Flight Alert System and Event Manager for more details on how to set up this alert.

*Available for use on any object type; ellipse, rectangle, or polygon.

Alert 2 -

Choose to generate an alert when a My Fleet plane's route changes and will intersect this object's area. Please see Flight Alert System and Event Manager for more details on how to set up this alert.

*Only active with polygon objects.

**When this option is active Motion is disabled.

Motion

Give the object a bearing, speed, and lifetime, so that the Drawing Object moves on-screen in real-time. Is useful for tracking weather system movements or any other mobile alert area.

*This action is disabled when Alerts Alert1 is active.

Polygon points

Table that contains the coordinates of the polygon drawing object. If you are drawing the object on the map, the coordinates will appear in the table after you complete the drawing of the object.

Copy points to clipboard

Adds Copy points to clipboard button to the Drawing Objects window to copy all coordinates to the clipboard.

Paste Points from Clipboard

You can copy coordinates from any source on your computer.

The following are examples of coordinates that you can copy and paste into the polygon points table. These are the formats that will provide the best results when pasting. Notice the placement of any dashes, periods,letters, or commas.

Synchronize with Flight Plan Manager (available for Flight Plan Manager customers)

Appears if you are also a Flight Plan Manager customer and have the rights enabled to view Flight Plan Manager options in Flight Explorer. After clicking to place a check in the box, the defaults activate.

The default settings are:

  • User Specific
  • Valid Time
  • Date range starts at the current time (UTC or Local) and ends eight hours ahead
  • Date Range starts at 00:00 am and ends 23:59 pm.
  • Day of week selects all

When selected, the options you change in the Valid Time area also appear in Flight Plan Manager. For example, you could create a drawing and only have it appear on Monday and also appear in Flight Plan Manager only on Monday. To do that you would create the drawing object, select Synchronize with Flight Plan Manager, and then select Monday. This will make the drawing object appear in Flight Explorer and Flight Plan Manager.

Valid Time

Area that contains options to adjust when the drawing object should appear on the map. You may want the drawing object to appear for a certain date range, certain time, or a days of the week.

Date Range

 

Start - Indicate the start of the date range by selecting a date from the calendar.

End - Indicate the end of the date rangy by selecting a date from the calendar.

Daily valid time

 

From - Enter or use the arrows to adjust the start time of the drawing object on the map.

To - Enter or use the arrows to adjust the end time off the drawing object on the map.

Day of the Week

Day of the week that you want the drawing object to be valid. You can select all the days, one, or a combination of days.

Gray out on map when not active

Allows you to choose whether you want the object to appear gray on the map when it is not active. For example, you may have selected the object appear on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Starting on Saturday, the object would appear gray on the map indicating that it is not active.
