Managing Route Analyzer

Route Analyzer is a quick way to graphically display a route for a flight plan. The same color set can be used in User Defined Views -> Planes, by entering a string of Fix or NAVAID ID's. This is helpful for viewing routes relative to current traffic and weather, prior to filing a flight plan. The Route Analyzer window can remain on-screen without interfering with other functions and can be manually moved about the screen.

To open Route Analyzer

Do one of the following:

  • In the toolbar, click Route Analyzer.
  • In the menu bar, click Tools then click Route Analyzer....
  • select Route Analyzer (CTRL + R)

The following is for the button on the main menu does not need to be here.

Activate the following functions by clicking the drop-down arrow on the Route Analyzer icon:

Item

Description

Draw Routes (ALT + [ )

Check here to allow selected routes to be displayed on the desktop, then select for this particular sheet or all sheets. This must be checked to be displayed.

Draw Labels (ALT + ] )

Check here to make labels visible. This must be checked to be displayed.

Draw Pints/Rings (ALT + \)

Check here to make Points and Rings visible. This must be checked to be displayed.

Draw Enabled Routes on Current Sheet

Indicates that Current Sheet routes have been selected. Click to enable if not already selected on the Route Analyzer tool.

Draw Enabled Routes on All Sheets

Indicates that All Sheet routes have been selected. Click to enable if not already selected on the Route Analyzer tool.

Sources Tabs

There are three tabs to work with in Route Analyzer. The Database tab uses information routed through Flight Explorer. The Desktop Interface tab uses information sent through the Desktop Interface by the user. The Import tab uses information from the Groups folder. Each tab has 4 worksheets that can be used for different route criteria. Click the headings of each column to sort the data. Right-click any route to open a Context menu. Double-click any route to open the Route Editor.

Filter Criteria

Select one or all of the following:

  • Company Routes
  • Preferred Routes
  • Code Departure Routes

Origin

Enter the flight origin code in this text box. *Optional

Destination

Enter the flight destination code in this text box. *Optional

Fill Sheet Below with All Routes Matching Selected Filter Criteria

Click to apply all the selected filters.

Desktop Interface tab

This tab appears as Flight Plan Manager if you are a Flight Plan Manager customer and integrated.

Origin

Enter the flight origin code in this text box.

Destination

Enter the flight destination code in this text box.

Avoidance Areas

A list of all "Avoidance" type drawing objects created in Tools, Features, and Settings -> Drawing Objects or by pressing Manage Drawing Objects on the Tools toolbar and selecting Create. *Only used in the Desktop Interface Tab.

Request Route from DTInt

Press this button to retrieve flight information from the Desktop Interface. The name of the button is reset with the customer service name. Example: "Request Route from A###" The ### is filled in by the settings from the customer's registered desktop interface application. *Only used in the Desktop Interface Tab.

Origin

Enter the flight origin code in this text box. *Optional

Destination

Enter the flight destination code in this text box. *Optional

Import

Click to import the information from a group.

Draw Enabled Routes

Check here to allow selected routes to be displayed on the desktop, then select for this particular sheet or all sheets. This must be checked to be displayed.

Draw Route Labels

Indicates that you want the route labels to appear on the map. the labels will not appear if this is not checked. You can then modify how the labels appear on the map by going to the Route Analyzer Options window by click Options at the bottom of the window.

Draw waypoint labels

Indicates that you want the waypoints to appear on the map. The waypoints will appear in the route.

Draw Points/Rings

Indicates that you want to make Points and Rings visible. This must be checked to be displayed.

Worksheets

Worksheets are used in both the Database Tab and the Desktop Interface Tab. Each column can be sorted in ascending and descending order.

Check box

Click to select one or many routes.

Type

Describes the type of flight.

Label

The name of the route. This can be user defined or the default, which is, Origin-Destination-Sequence for routes and ACID+Sequence# for Analyze Route for a flight. A Route ID can also be used from a 3PDI route.

With Flight Plan Manager integration, this column shows:

  • Callsign
  • RouteID
  • Variant Number

Origin

Enter the originating 4 character airport code.

Destination

Enter the destination 4 character airport code.

Sequence

Displays routing sequence numbers, a 1 or 2 character ID when there are multiple routes between the same origin and destination airports. This column displays the planned, scheduled, and active states, of a particular flight, when selected on the Plane Context Menu. Route history is also shown relative to the states in My Fleet.

  • Schd - Scheduled, when FE receives schedule information.
  • Plnd - Planned, when the Airline files the flight plan.
  • Actv - In-flight, when FE receives information that the aircraft is in-flight.
  • FE - An option to use an available route provided by Flight Explorer.

It is advised that unique start and end points be provided when implementing partial routes to ensure the most accurate decoding of the route (i.e. lat/lon waypoints).

Distance

Shows the overall distance of the route.

ETE

Shows the estimated time en-route.

Time

Depicts the time that the route was received.

Color

Double-click to open the Route Editor and select a color for this particular route.

Route

Displays the routing codes. The route length maximum is 2000.

Check All

Click to place check marks in all the available routes.

Clear All

Click to remove all check marks.

Save/Print Image

Select a route, make any changes, then press Save/Print Image. The Save Map Image As window appears.

Save in

Keep the location for the saved file as shown in the Save in: drop-down directory or change to a preferred location.

File Name

Enter a new name or use the name that is created in the File Name drop-down box. The created name uses identifiers previously selected. You can define fixed parameters for the image size and numbering in the FE.ini File -> General section.

Save as type

Select the image type (.png or .jpg) in the Save as type: drop-down box.

Color

Select a color from the Color drop-down box.

  • No Change - does not change the color
  • Grayscale - changes the image to different shades of gray
  • Non-black to White - changes all non-black colors to white
  • Non-white to Black - changes all non-white colors to black

Map Window

Select the map to be used from the Map Window.

  • Active Window
  • Window 1
  • Window 2
  • Window 3
  • Window 4

Save

Press Save to save the image.

Cancel

Press Cancel to return to the previous screen without saving.

Print (Ctrl+P)

Press Print to print the image. When printing the main Flight Explorer screen on a black and white printer, you will achieve better results if your User Defined View is set up using a light background in shades of gray.

E-mail Image

Press E-mail Image to send an image using the locally installed or default e-mail client. The Mailto address is left blank. The Subject line is filled in with "Flight Explorer map image" as the label and the attachment line is filled in with the file name that was created for the image file. Click any line to make changes

Save via HTTP

Press Save via HTTP to save an image using a predetermined HTTP url. The URL can be specified in the FE.ini File -> General section.

Add Route

Click to open the Route Editor.

Export

Click to open the Groups folder to designate a location to export information.

Remove All (this sheet)

Click to remove all the routes from the active sheet only.

Remove All (all sheets)

Click to remove all the routes from all the sheets.

Compact<<>>Full

Click to compress the Route Analyzer Tool. This is a more compact version of the tool that allows some functions such as sorting. Press again to open Route Analyzer to the full version.

Close

Click to close the Route Analyzer Tool.

Options

Click to open the Route Analyzer Options window.

Help

Click to open online Help.

Context Menu

Right-click any route to open the context menu.

Delete

Deletes the selected route record.

Edit (text/points)

Opens the Route Editor to allow changes.

Duplicate

Duplicates the route and places into the same sheet.

Copy to

Copies the selected route to Sheet 2, 3, or 4.

Move to

Moves the selected route to Sheet 2, 3, or 4.

Copy to Clipboard

Copies the route to the user's clipboard.

Send to Desktop Interface

Sends the selected route to the Desktop Interface.
