User Defined View Planes Window

You can use the Planes window to manage planes.

A user defined aircraft view or plane view is a collection of system and overlay settings that include geographic region and zoom settings. When the mouse pointer hovers over an aircraft, a Hot Tip opens to show details about the plane.

To open the Planes window

  1. Click the View Settings icon on the Main toolbar, the down arrow on the Plane Overlay icon on the Overlay toolbar, or User Defined View Settings (CTRL +V) on the View menu, and then click Planes.
    The Planes window appearsClosedappears.

Description

Detail Options

Enable or disable various plane details and select their corresponding colors. Colors can be selected for each of the overlay items by clicking on the associated color button. Each plane detail is depicted in both Standard and Spherical Projections.

Tags

Turns aircraft tags on or off for all aircraft. For individual aircraft tags use the plane context menu (right-click a plane), or Plane filter settings.

Track history

Enables or disables aircraft track history for all aircraft. The number of history segments displayed can be selected below. For individual aircraft history use the plane context menu (right-click a plane).

Velocity vectors

Enables or disables aircraft velocity vectors for all aircraft. The vector magnitude and unit can be selected below. For individual aircraft vectors use the plane context menu (right-click a plane).

FP change box

Enables or disables the Flight Plan change indicator boxes for all aircraft.

Note  These settings are independent of the individual plane settings in the plane context menu. For example, if you have enabled three planes’ tags using their context menu, then turn on and off the Tag setting in this window, the three aircraft tags originally enabled will still be displayed.

History

Allows you to select the number of segments. You can select 1-10, 15, 30, or 45 segments. To enable Track History see Detail Options above. History Segments are depicted in both Standard and Spherical Projections.

History Style

Designate how the segment should appear; as solid with no points (default) or dotted with points.

Velocity Vector

Allows you to select the units and magnitude of the velocity vectors. The velocity vector can represent either miles or minutes (projected by the current ground speed). You can select 1, 5, 10 or 25 minutes/miles as the magnitude of the velocity vector. To enable the velocity vectors see Detail Options above. Velocity Vectors are depicted in both Standard and Spherical Projections.

Follow Me

Follow Me mode allows you to specify a single aircraft ID to be followed. Each time it's position updates, Flight Explorer will automatically update the map position to keep the aircraft at the center of the screen. Follow Me can be used in both Standard and Spherical Projections.

Aircraft ID

Specifies the single aircraft to follow. This can also be set by right clicking on a plane in the map window and selecting Follow Me from the context menu.

Follow Me Marker

If this option is selected the aircraft selected for the 'Follow Me' feature will place a triangle of the selected color around the aircraft.

See Using Follow Me for more information.

Show Tag

If this option is enabled, a tag will automatically be displayed on the Follow Me plane.

Show Message if Not Active

If this option is selected, and the Follow Me plane is currently not in flight, a message indicating this will be displayed on the map window.

Note  Follow Me, in conjunction with Slide Show mode, can be used to automatically track multiple flights without any user interaction.

Status area

Allows you to enable or disable the different states of aircraft shown on the map. Colors can be customized as well.

Departed

Shows that the aircraft has departed.

In-flight

Aircraft not included in any of the categories below

Arrived

Aircraft that have arrived at their destination (displayed for 5 minutes after arrival)

Aged out

Aircraft that have arrived at their destination but did not report the arrival within 8 minutes of their last track update report (displayed for 5 minutes)

Parked

Shows the last known location for aircraft defined in My Fleet tail number list only.

Scheduled

Shows the scheduled flights of My Fleet.

Planned

Shows the planned flights of My Fleet

Projected

Shows flights that are projecting their positions.

Ground vehicles

Shows the ground vehicles on the map.

Flight Plan area

Allows you to make modifications about the flight plan.

Flight Plan

Set the color of the current flight plan. The flown point circles are based on this color selection and depict position.

Old Flight Plan

Set the color of the old flight plan. The old flight plan is displayed when a flight plan change is received for a flight whose current flight plan is already displayed on screen (both current and previous flight plans are displayed until the flight plan change box is cleared).

Route Labels

Set the label color to make more distinct against your background.

Route Flown

Set the color of the actual route flown. The flown point circles are based on this color selection and depict position.

3PDI pts

Set the color for the 3PDI route. The flown point circles are based on this color selection and depict position.

Projected pts

Set the color for the projected flight path. The flown point circles are based on this color selection and depict position.

Show Rectangle at Points Along Flight Plan

If this option is enabled, a rectangle will be displayed at each discrete way-point along the flight plan.

Show Labels at Points Along Flight Plan

Use this option to see labels at way-points throughout the flight plan

Show Only Remaining Portion of Flight Plan

Use this option to depict the route from the current position of the plan to the destination. It is shown as a dashed line from the plane to next FIX in the color already selected.

Show Circle at Points Along Route Flown

If this option is enabled, a circle will be displayed at each reported position of the aircraft along the actual route flown.

Show Flight Plan Time and Distance

The Flight Plan can show time and distance to way-points. Choose between None, Next/last, and All remaining way-points.

  • None - Does not show any time or distance information
  • Next / last - Shows the time and distance for the next and last points of the flight plan
  • All remaining - Shows the time and distance for all of the remaining points of the flight plan

Flight Projection

Flight projection uses 4D Modeling to project where, in the flight plan, an aircraft should be according to the last reported position and moves the plane on-screen to that projected location. A line can be drawn by selecting the "Show Last Real" option below.

  • Show Projected Points - When selected, the plane will be displayed at the current location, whether real or projected. When not selected, the plane is displayed at the last real position reported and ignore projected points.
  • Show Last Real - When selected, a line is drawn back to the last "real" position reported.
  • Highlight projected points - Indicates the projected points of the flight. Click on the color selection button to modify the color of the projected point.

Coast Mode

If coast mode is enabled, Flight Explorer will "project" all aircraft positions every 10-seconds, based on the last reported position, speed and heading. As soon as the next "real" position report comes in, the current position is corrected.

  • Enable Coast Mode - Enables the 10-second projection of current aircraft positions as described above.
  • Show Last Real Position - If this option is enabled, Flight Explorer will display a tail from the current projected (coasted) location back to the last "real/reported" position. The aircraft icon is always shown at the projected (coasted) position, and the hollow circle at the end of the trail is drawn at the last real/reported position. The color of the trail can also be selected.
