User Defined Views

A User Defined View is a collection of system and overlay settings (aircraft, geography, backgrounds, etc.) that can be customized and stored. Up to 100 views can be created for more flexibility. Views can be automatically cycled on-screen using Slide Show Mode.

There are two types of User Defined Views, Personal and Public. Personal views are specific to a single personal computer, person, or system and considered private. Public views can be stored in any accessible PC or network and are considered accessible to the public. ( See Create a User Defined View for Personal views and Create a Public View for shared views.

When more than one View file is shared across a work-group, personal or public, there may be instances when not all desks or stations have been upgraded to the latest version of Flight Explorer. In these cases, Flight Explorer detects during start-up, that there is a newer View File version among the group and displays a message that "a newer version has been found and FE cannot continue". The Flight Explorer application will not open until the user downloads and installs the latest version of Flight Explorer.

To Use User Defined Views

Click View Settings on the Main toolbar or User Defined View Settings (CTRL +V) on the View menu to open the user Defined View Settings window.

To Activate a User Defined View

Each overlay must be enabled first by clicking the Show Overlay check box in each User Defined View or by clicking the drop-down arrow on the individual Overlay icon on the Overlay Toolbar, then selecting the appropriate view.

To turn on an overlay, click the appropriate Overlay icon on the Overlay toolbar, or select the overlay on the Overlay menu.

Introduction

A view includes all settings in User Defined View Settings, the state of the Overlay buttons and the current geographic region and zoom level. The name of the current view is displayed in the title bar of User Defined View Settings surrounded by square brackets. All view related toolbar operations are duplicated on the View menu, which also allows you to select these options using the keyboard.

The overlay selection scheme has been designed to allow extensive control of overlay options while still providing quick access to common options. There are three choices for selecting overlays. The one you choose depends on the level of detail you need to control.

  1. Click one of the Overlay toolbar buttons to turn the entire overlay class on or off.
  2. Click the arrow of an overlay toolbar button and select from the menu. This allows access to common sub-categories for an overlay class. (See Overlay toolbar)
  3. View Settings or User Defined View Settings on the View menu allows complete control of all overlay options; filters, colors and other details.

Note  The new view can be accessed by choosing Select View on the View menu, the Select View button or the Flight Explorer Quick View bar.
